MANILA, Philippines — Two detainees were wounded after taking two nurses hostage at the Marikina City jail yesterday.
Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said the inmates were shot by police after they traded shots with law enforcers.
During the exchange of gunfire, one of the nurses was shot in the abdomen while the other was hit in the foot.
Teodoro said the nurses were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The inmates complained about discomfort, prompting jail guards to bring them to the infirmary where they reportedly grabbed a gun and took the nurses hostage.
