Caloocan mayor catches virus
MANILA, Philippines — Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan has tested positive for COVID-19.
Malapitan said he is in stable condition and recovering from the disease.
Malapitan is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
He urged his close contacts to isolate and get tested, adding that the city offers free swab tests.
Malapitan said the city hall would continue its operations.
“The local government will continue its mandate to serve the needs of our constituents. I will monitor the situation in the city and communicate with the heads of departments,” Malapitan said.
He said 15,786 vaccine doses were administered in the city’s church vaccination sites.
Malapitan thanked the volunteers at the Dioceses of Caloocan and Novaliches for helping in the city’s vaccine rollout.
Meanwhile, Malapitan thanked the national government for giving the city P1,342,711,000 in lockdown assistance.
Caloocan had finished distributing the cash aid to 402,835 families.
