ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A barangay captain was shot dead in Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur yesterday.
Initial investigation showed Raymundo Albiar, 55, chairman of Barangay Tuburan, was cleaning his military-type jeep in front of his house at around 6: 10 a.m. when an unidentified man approached and shot the victim several times.
Col. Roel Lami-ing, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said Albiar died at the scene. The assailant escaped on a motorcycle toward Barangay Tiguma.
Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Victor Yu and his wife Rep. Divina Yu offered a reward of P1 million for the arrest of the gunman.
The governor appealed to Lami-ing to resolve the case at the soonest possible time.
Albiar is the second barangay captain gunned down in Zamboanga del Sur this year after chairman Ali Gampong of Barangay Tiguma on June 24.
