Pangolin found in Alabang returned to Palawan

Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A pangolin found in an exclusive village in Muntinlupa was flown to Palawan, its natural habitat, yesterday.

The male pangolin, named Pandi, was found in Ayala Alabang Village on Monday. Pandi was found wandering in the garden of a residence in the village on Monday.

Pandi arrived in Palawan yesterday morning on Cebu Pacific Flight 5J 563.

“We thank everyone who helped in sending Pandi back home. The Cebu Pacific team handled Pandi like a pet and with utmost care,” Cebu Pacific corporate social responsibility specialist Roxanne Gochuico said.

Pandi is the second pangolin rescued from the same village, according to Gochuico.

In 2018, Panggoy was also discovered in Ayala Alabang but died while waiting to be flown to Palawan.

Anna Varona, an environment and conservation advocate, said in a Facebook post that pangolins, an endangered species, do not do well in captivity.
