MANILA, Philippines — Former University of the Philippines (UP) president Jose Abueva passed away yesterday. He was 93.
In a Facebook post, Abueva’s daughter Rossana confirmed that he died at his house in Beverly Hills, Antipolo, Rizal.
Abueva served as the 16th UP president from 1987 to 1993.
He signed the 1989 UP-Department of National Defense Accord, which banned police and military personnel from entering UP campuses without notifying the UP administration. The agreement was scrapped by the Duterte government last January.
