MANILA, Philippines — At least 10,714 inmates in various detention facilities have been inoculated against COVID-19.
The figure represents nearly nine percent of the 119,692 inmates nationwide, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) spokesman Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said yesterday.
Solda said 2,488 inmates have been fully vaccinated.
“Continuous yung coordination natin with the Department of Health and local health units,” he said in an interview over Teleradyo.
Solda said 13,374 BJMP personnel have received their first dose while 10,672 have been fully vaccinated.
Only 3,678 BJMP employees have not been vaccinated.
Since last year, 89 inmates with comorbidities have died of COVID-19.
There are 244 active cases among prisoners.
To prevent a surge in infections, Solda said prisoners with symptoms are isolated.
He said severe cases are brought to hospitals for treatment.
