Pasig allots P88 million for food packs

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig government has earmarked P88.2 million for food packs to be distributed to over 200,000 families who would not be receiving cash aid from the national government, Mayor Vico Sotto announced yesterday.

While the P650 million allotted by the national government for low-income families was a hefty amount, Sotto said this was P30 million short of the previous lockdown aid received by the city government last April.

“Not all residents can receive financial aid. That’s why the local government ordered 260,000 grocery food packs, so we can help more people,” Sotto said.

The food packs worth P340 each consist of rice, canned goods and other basic items.

Seven cases of COVID-19 Delta variant have been recorded in Pasig.

As of Sunday, the city had registered 822 active COVID-19 cases, 990 deaths and 26,245 recoveries for a total of 38,057 cases since March last year.
