5 fishermen rescued off Zambales

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales, Philippines — Five fishermen were rescued by personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after their boat capsized in the waters off San Antonio town on Friday.

The fishermen were identified as Armado Dalut, 41; RJ Martinez, 22; Romeo Martinez, 37; Pedro Moran, 46, and Rodrigo Monotoc, 49, all of Barangay Calapacuan in Subic.

The five were sailing near Silanguin Cove in Barangay Pundaquit on board F/B Brothers 8 when strong winds and waves battered their boat.

Local fishermen and personnel of the Malayan Towage and Salvage Corp. helped the PCG rescue the victims.

The PCG-Zambales station deployed a search and rescue team onboard tugboat Mangyan of the Malayan Towage and Salvage Corp. and watercraft DF-301.

Relatives of the victims asked the F/B El Kapitan based in Subic to join the search and rescue operations.

Strong winds and waves prevented the El Kapitan from getting near the site, prompting the Mangyan to escort it back to Subic before proceeding to the area.
