MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – A soldier was killed and six others were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the road in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan went off before dawn on Thursday.
The identity of the fatality was withheld pending notification of his family members. The Army’s 6th Infantry Division said the wounded soldiers are recuperating in a hospital.
The victims were on their way to Cotabato City to procure medicine for villagers when the bomb exploded.
Officials said members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters could be behind the attack.
