NPA leader yields, 2 arrested
MANILA, Philippines — A New People’s Army (NPA) leader surrendered in Sergio Osmeña Jr. town in Zamboanga del Norte on Tuesday.
The military said a logistics officer of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee, known only by his alias of Benjie, turned over an M16 rifle, a 9mm pistol, six magazines and ammunition.
He surrendered to soldiers of the 97th and 42nd Infantry Battalions (IB) in Sitio Tungilawan in Barangay Bagumbayan.
In Negros Occidental, George Esyo and Eduardo Mission of the Central Negros Front 1 of the NPA were arrested following an encounter with soldiers belonging to the 94th IB, Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman said.
Guzman said several NPA rebels were believed wounded in the clash in Sitio Agbacagay, Barangay Santol in Binalbagan town.
