MANILA, Philippines — The move of Las Piñas City Rep. Camille Villar to give away raffle prizes, including a brand new house and lot, proved to be effective in encouraging more residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Villar’s office reported that the number of inoculated residents increased by 205 percent a month after the congresswoman launched “May bahay sa bakuna” incentive program.

Based on data from the city health office, Villar said 100,535 residents have been fully vaccinated as of July 15, up from 32,971 fully inoculated individuals on June 14.

Of the total 313,045 vaccinees, 100,535 were fully vaccinated while 212,510 got their first dose.

Las Piñas ranked second among 17 local government units in Metro Manila with a vaccine utilization rate of 95.74 percent.

“I am so happy and overwhelmed by the response of the residents to this program as we ensure to get as many people as possible to get vaccinated,” said Villar, who led the first monthly raffle draw last week.

Villar, who donated non-monetary incentives, also noted an increase in vaccination registrants since the program was launched.

“We are promoting this program not just to incentivize people but also to prevent a surge in COVID-19 cases caused by low vaccine turnout,” Villar said.

Las Piñas is giving away grocery items every month for vaccinated residents. Those who receive their first dose get the chance to win a house and lot worth P1.5 million and two brand new motorcycles.

Villar said they are promoting the vaccination program to protect the public from COVID-19, especially the more infectious and transmissible new variants.

Citing experts, the deputy speaker said vaccinated individuals are less likely to get seriously ill.

There are 18 vaccination sites in Las Piñas: CAA Elementary School, Las Piñas Elementary School Central, Gatchalian covered court, Pamplona Uno Elementary School Central, Verdant covered court, Golden Acres, Bambusetum, San Antonio, Barangay Almanza Uno, T.S. Cruz covered court, SM Southmall, SM Center, Las Piñas General Hospital, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Gymnasium, Las Piñas Doctors Hospital, Village Square Mall, Robinsons Place and The Tent on C5 Extension.
