MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost) yesterday vowed to speed up parcel delivery with the removal of the 75-year-old practice of issuing notification cards.

Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio has stopped the issuance of notification cards to parcel recipients.

“We stopped this practice to provide convenience to the people who continue to patronize our post office services,” Fulgencio said.

The PhlPost recently launched “Hatid Malasakit,” which aims to speed up delivery of mails and packages.

Fulgencio said Filipinos abroad can expect faster and convenient door-to-door delivery of mails and parcels.

“This time, our clients can expect convenient door-to-door delivery of their parcels minus the notification cards,” he said.

Previously, the addressee or recipient had to receive a notification card before a parcel could be picked up at the postal office.

“Sometimes, a notification card could be received in two or three months, which causes delays in claiming the parcel,” Fulgencio said.

Under the new system, once the package has been cleared at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay, it would be immediately delivered to the recipient’s address.
