31 seniors in Valenzuela get second home

MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-one senior citizens got a second home in Valenzuela after they were transferred to a facility for the elderly called Bahay Kanlungan, Mayor Rex Gatchalian said yesterday.

The senior citizens were transferred from Bahay Kalinga to the new home for the aged in Barangay Maysan.

The four-story building has a 60 bed capacity.

Gatchalian said its doors are open to abandoned senior citizens.

The facility also has a roof deck where the elderly can do physical exercises.

The shelter will also house 44 non-senior citizens who have mental health conditions and disabilities, according to information officer Zyan Caiña.

The city government has two other homecare facilities – Bahay Kalinga and Bahay Pag-asa – for neglected and abused children and children in conflict with the law, Gatchalian said.

Second jabs for bedridden

In Navotas, at least 20 bedridden residents received their second doses of Sinovac vaccines last week, Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Vaccinators went house-to-house to administer the second jabs on bedridden senior citizens, according to Tiangco.

City hall said 500 workers at the Navotas fish port were given their first doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on Friday.

They were beneficiaries of the night time vaccination drive in the city, Tiangco added.
