MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — An alleged bomb-maker of terrorist group Dawlah Islamiya was killed while two others were captured following an encounter in Shariff Saidona Mustapha town in this province on Saturday.
Local officials and barangay leaders identified the fatality as Tong, whom they said was an expert in making improvised explosive devices.
Tong’s companions were turned over to the local police after they surrendered to Army soldiers.
The suspects yielded bomb paraphernalia, ammunition and a grenade projectile.
Troopers recovered a rifle and parts of a grenade launcher near the body of the slain terrorist.
Earlier in the day, two other suspected terrorists were wounded in an encounter in Barangay Nabundas, according to Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, chief of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.
The shootout in Barangay Nabundas erupted when Tong’s followers assaulted a team of soldiers from the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion that responded to a report about the presence of armed men in the area.
