MANILA, Philippines — State seismologists warned of possible damage and aftershocks from the magnitude-5.4 earthquake that hit Davao Oriental yesterday.
The quake occurred at 8:09 a.m. and was centered 37 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The temblor was felt at Intensity 5 or “strong” in Governor Generoso and Intensity 4 or “moderately strong” in Mati City.
Intensity 3 or “weak” was felt in Tampakan and Tupi, both in South Cotabato; Intensity 2 or “slightly felt” in Davao City, General Santos City, Kidapawan City and Kiamba in Sarangani, and Intensity 1 or “scarcely perceptible” in Arakan, Cotabato.
On the same day, a magnitude-3.7 quake also occurred at around 11:48 a.m. some 16 km northwest of Davao City in Davao del Sur.
The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Davao City.
