MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday assured the public there is no security threat in Metro Manila despite the arrest of two suspected members of the bandit group Abu Sayyaf in Taguig over the weekend.
“We do not see terrorism threat in Metro Manila. Patuloy ang imbestigasyon sa pagkakaaresto sa dalawang miyembro umano ng Abu Sayyaf,” PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.
Taupik Galbun and Salik Galbun were collared in Barangay Upper Bicutan on Saturday night.
Eleazar said an investigation is ongoing to determine why the two alleged Abu Sayyaf bandits are in Metro Manila.
Probers said they are checking if the two have accomplices in Metro Manila and if they were planning to stage a terror attack.
Eleazar commended the National Capital Region Police Office and Joint Task Force NCR for the suspects’ arrest.
He urged the public to report any suspicious persons to authorities.
