Van collides with truck in Quezon; 6 dead

MANILA, Philippines — Six persons died while three others were injured when a van collided with a trailer truck along Quirino Highway in Tagkawayan, Quezon yesterday.

The driver of the van, Ron Aldwin Aquino, and his passengers Ma. Thalia Bombales, Sergei Victor France Reyes and a man who has yet to be identified died at the scene.

Agnes Villarosa and Rommel Galupar died while being treated in a hospital.

Three other passengers of the van – Fatima Beroin, Raymond Cortez and Joel Badiola, said to be residents of Camarines Sur – were taken to the Ma. L. Eleazar Memorial District Hospital for treatment.

One of the injured was reportedly transferred to a bigger hospital in Naga City.

In its report, the Calabarzon police said the driver of the Nissan Urvan Escapade was overtaking another vehicle at an uphill portion of the road in Barangay San Vicente when it collided with the trailer truck at around 12:20 a.m.

The truck was in the opposite lane of the highway and on its way to Manila.

Police took truck driver Arjay Redecialla into custody for the filing of charges.

Three passengers of the truck were unscathed.
