DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — The water elevation at the San Roque Power Corp. (SRPC) dam in San Manuel town in Pangasinan has dropped to 227 meters, which is considered very alarming, according to an official of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
Gaudencio de Vera of NIA’s Pangasinan Irrigation Management Office said the water level could further drop to 225 meters tomorrow based on the projection of SRPC.
“At this minimum level... the power plant can no longer run eight hours a day to fulfill the contracted capacity of 115 megawatts... during peak, and consequently there will be no release of water for irrigation,” De Vera said.
He said the low water level would continue if there is not enough rainfall or if a weather disturbance hits the watershed of the dam.
