229 families receive homes in Baseco
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday led the inauguration and distribution of 229 housing units at the BaseCommunity, the city’s first townhouse-style project at the Baseco Compound in Port Area.
Moreno awarded the houses located in Barangay 649, Zone 68, Bagong Lupa, Baseco to 229 families displaced by a fire in February last year.
Moreno said the project is a realization of his promise to address the city’s housing problem by providing decent and affordable homes to informal settler families.
“While my parents failed to fulfill their dream for us, I thanked God that you gave me the chance to serve as your mayor,” Moreno said during his speech.
Moreno was joined by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, urban settlements office chief Cris Fernandez, department of engineering and public works head Armand Andres, city electrician Randy Sadac, architect Ely Balmoris and Barangay 649 captain Diana Espinosa during the turnover ceremony.
The Tondominium 1 and 2 housing projects are set to be completed this year amid the pandemic, Moreno said.
