Loonie to Eleazar: Probe cops for planting drugs

MANILA, Philippines — Fliptop rapper Marlon Peroramas, better known as Loonie, is appealing to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar to probe the police officers who filed drug charges against him.

“What we humbly and respectfully ask from your office is, sir, bigyan ninyo sana ng atensiyon at aksiyon ang mga isyu na ito at umaasa ako na makapag-launch ng investigation doon sa mga involved sa kaso namin (give these issues attention and action and I hope an investigation will be launched against those involved in our case),” Loonie, who rose to fame for his rap song “Tao Lang,” said in a video message on his Facebook account last Friday.

The Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 64 dismissed the drug trafficking charges filed by the city police against Loonie, his sister and manager Idyll Liza Peroramas and road manager David Rizon.

The case threatened their lives, Loonie said.

He previously declared his camp would file counter-charges against the police officers for allegedly planting evidence to make it appear that they sold marijuana.

Court records show police claimed to have recovered P100,000 worth of marijuana from Loonie and two others during a sting at the basement parking area of a hotel in Makati City in September 2019.

According to documents filed in court, Cpl. Jan Kirby Vigilia served as the undercover police officer while the arresting officers were Cpls. Mark Laurence Batu, Ma. Theresa Cunanan and Sam Angnowen.

Maj. Rendielyn Sahagun and Cpl. Manuel Gutierrez Jr. were on record as having examined and taken custody of the evidence as members of the city police’s crime laboratory.

Another court that handled the case against Loonie, RTC Branch 149, pointed out that testimonies from Vigilia were “inconsistent,” particularly the absence of an elected official and a reporter during the drug sting.

Loonie said Vigilla “lied” to the court, as declared by the three judges that handled his drug case.

Vigilia is reportedly no longer connected with the Makati City police.
