Fires hit Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan
MANILA, Philippines — At least 130 families were left homeless when fires broke out in Quezon City, Makati and Caloocan since Friday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said around 100 families were affected when the blaze destroyed around 30 houses along Road 7 in Barangay Project 6, Quezon City yesterday.
Arson probers said the fire started at around around 12:44 p.m. and reached third alarm. Firefighters doused the flames at around 3:16 p.m.
The fire originated on the second floor of a two-story house owned by a certain Maria Teresta Sastre. The BFP has yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
There were no reported casualties during the fire, according to the BFP.
Damage to property was placed at P100,000.
The affected residents have sought shelter at an evacuation center in the barangay.
In Makati, a fire razed a compound with four houses along Washington street in Barangay Pio del Pilar on Friday, the BFP said. The blaze left 27 families homeless.
The fire was said to have started at the ceiling of a two-floor house owned by Danilo Palomar. Firefighters raised first alarm at 1:39 p.m. and reached second alarm ten minutes later. The fire was put out at around 3 p.m.
The crews of 36 firetrucks, 15 from the BFP and 21 from volunteer fire brigades, rushed to put out the fire, which destroyed around P300,000 worth of property. No one died or was hurt in the fire.
Earlier on Friday, a fire broke out at a house along Spain street in Barangay 171, Caloocan. The blaze reached first alarm at around 10:03 a.m. and was put out approximately 10 minutes later.
The fire, which caused property damage worth P100,000, could have been caused by an overheated home appliance, the BFP said.
No one was reported killed or injured in the fire.
