MANILA, Philippines — A U-turn slot in Quezon City, which was closed to give way to the EDSA busway system, will be reopened today, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday.

Motorists can now use the U-turn slot near the Dario Bridge, according to MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos.

Abalos said MMDA traffic enforcers would be deployed to manage the flow of traffic in the area.

Abalos said motorists traveling along EDSA northbound would no longer have to drive as far as Balintawak-Cloverleaf to take a U-turn.

He said the elevated ramps for the EDSA busway system, where buses would pass to allow other motorists to use U-turn slots, would cost P400 million for each intersection.

“That is too expensive,” Abalos said.

The MMDA plans to install traffic lights along the intersections with U-turn slots, Abalos added.

“Give us one month to see how it will go. Kung hindi umubra, OK, ituloy ang elevated bus ramp along EDSA,” he said.
