Intramuros closed to traffic for Advincula’s installation
MANILA, Philippines — Intramuros will be closed to motorists on June 24 to give way to the installation ceremony of Cardinal Jose Advincula as the 33rd archbishop of the Archdiocese of Manila.
The mayors of Manila, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Pasay and Makati as well as diplomats and other guests are expected to attend the event.
Fr. Reginald Malicdem, chancellor of the Manila Archdiocese, said Intramuros would be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. for the arrival of Advincula at the Manila Cathedral.
There will be no fanfare during the installation of Advincula, Malicdem said.
“Only guests will be allowed to enter the Manila Cathedral along with other people who are part of the event,” he said.
Malicdem said they decided to close Intramuros to control the guests during the installation of Advincula, as part of COVID-19 protocols.
The Manila Archdiocese will limit the number of guests to 400.
Advincula replaced former Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, who was appointed to the Vatican in February last year.
Advincula will be welcomed by Mayor Isko Moreno and the administrator of Intramuros at the Postigo Gate prior to the 9 a.m. mass at the Manila Cathedral.
