MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 field hospital built in Rizal Park’s Burnham Green will open on June 24, Manila’s 450th founding anniversary, city public information office chief Julius Leonen said yesterday.
The city government spent P154 million to build the hospital, which has 336 beds and will accommodate mild to moderate COVID-19 patients, he added.
The city government started constructing the hospital, made with shipping containers, on April 20 with the approval of the Department of Tourism and the National Parks and Development Committee in anticipation of the surge in COVID-19 cases.
Construction was finished on June 11, 10 days ahead of the 60-day deadline set by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
The hospital, the seventh run by the city government, will be open to residents and non-residents of Manila, officials said.
