LAGUNA, Philippines — Two suspected members of a robbery and kidnap gang were killed in an alleged shootout with law enforcers in Calamba, Laguna yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz said the fatalities, who have yet to be identified, were tagged in the kidnapping of Chinese citizens working for Philippine offshore gaming operators.
Cruz said the operation was launched after National Capital Region Police Office intelligence division operatives received a tip that a Chinese citizen was kidnapped in Parañaque.
The suspects reportedly opened fire when law enforcers spotted their vehicle while heading toward the Calamba exit of the South Luzon Expressway.
