BOC seizes P20 million ‘hot’ vehicles

MANILA, Philippines — Bureau of Customs personnel seized on Wednesday three vehicles reportedly smuggled into the country by the same firm that allegedly illegally imported four cars last week.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service officers assigned at the Manila International Container Port confiscated a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, a Mercedes Benz SLK 55 AMG and a Mercedes Benz E220 that arrived at the MICP last June 2.

The three secondhand vehicles, misdeclared as used truck parts, were estimated to be worth P20 million. They were hidden among 33 bales of used clothing or ukay-ukay.

These cars were reportedly consigned to JLFDM Consumer Goods Trading, the same company that allegedly smuggled four sports cars from Japan that arrived at the MICP last May 26.

The Porsche Boxter, a Mercedes Benz SLK and two Toyota MR-S were hidden among 40 bales of used clothing. The shipment was misdeclared as used auto parts.
