Teen slain in tupada raid laid to rest
MANILA, Philippines — The teenager with autism who was shot dead during a police raid on a tupada or illegal cockfight was laid to rest in Valenzuela on Sunday.
Edwin Arnigo, 18, was buried at the Ever Memorial Garden.
Arnigo’s mother, Helen, said in an interview on ABS-CBN that she would leave their fight for justice to God’s will.
Helen said she had a conversation with Arnigo when he was still alive that they should keep on fighting despite life’s difficulties.
Mayor Rex Gatchalian has tapped the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an independent probe on Arnigo’s death.
A witness told the NBI that there was no scuffle over the gun between Arnigo and the accused police officer, Senior M/Sgt. Christopher Salcedo, during the police operation in Barangay Lingunan on May 23.
Valenzuela police chief Col. Ramchrisen Haveria said the fatal gunshot from Salcedo’s service firearm was accidental.
