Dante wind signal raised over Samar island
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over some areas of Samar island due to Tropical Storm Dante, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.
The wind signal was hoisted over the eastern portions of Northern Samar including the municipalities of Gamay, Laoang, Lapinig, Mapanas and Palapag as well as in Arteche and San Policarpo, both located in Eastern Samar.
PAGASA said the outer rainbands of Dante would bring light to moderate rain over Caraga, Davao region and Eastern Visayas as well as in the provinces of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.
Dante (international name Choi-wan) is likely to remain over the Philippine Sea and will not make landfall, PAGASA said.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Dante was spotted 375 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
Dante was moving north-westward at 20 kph and was expected to be around 250 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar today.
