NLEX rehabilitates old Bulacan bridges

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corp. has started the rehabilitation of old bridges in Bulacan.

The rehabilitation of the 64-meter Bigaa Bridge in Balagtas town is targeted for completion by August while the 45-meter Meycauayan Bridge is expected to be finished by September.

“We always look after the safety and convenience of our motorists. Both bridges were built in the 1960s and it is high time that we replace the girders and slabs to strengthen the structures,” NLEX president and general manager Luigi Bautista said.

NLEX said the rehabilitation of the bridges is being undertaken in stages to ensure that traffic would not be stalled.

“We’d like to assure our motorists that we will do everything possible to complete the works on time while ensuring public safety and minimizing traffic slowdown,” Bautista said.

He said field patrol officers and marshals would be deployed to manage the flow of traffic, adding that they would put up traffic signs and other warning devices to guide motorists.

NLEX is also working on the upgrade of the Candaba Viaduct, repair of Pau bridge and Pasig-Potrero bridge along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway as well as pavement maintenance program on both NLEX and SCTEX.
