Crising leaves 1 dead in Zamboanga peninsula
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Heavy rains spawned by Tropical Storm Crising triggered widespread flooding in Zamboanga peninsula, leaving one person dead.
Angelito Casinillo, Office of Civil Defense regional operations officer, said the fatality was a resident of Kabasalan town in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Casinillo said Siay, Diplahan, Imelda and Tungawan are the other areas affected by flooding in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Bayog, Lapuyan, Lakewood and Dimataling were worst-hit in Zamboanga del Sur.
Casinillo said some areas in Gudod, Zamboanga del Norte were also submerged in floodwaters.
A landslide along the highway in Barangay Tigbalabag east of this city stalled traffic while heavy rains cause flooding in Curuan district.
Casinillo said they have yet to determine the cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture.
Crising dumped rains over parts of Mindanao on Friday even as it weakened into a low-pressure area.
The weather system continued to bring light to moderate to at times heavy rains over Zamboanga peninsula and nearby provinces until yesterday.
The low-pressure area was forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility today.
