Fire breaks out at Pasig hospital
MANILA, Philippines — A fire hit Pasig City General Hospital yesterday morning.
The fire started in the hospital’s storage room on the fourth floor at around 10 a.m. and reached third alarm before it was put out at around 3 p.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Mayor Vico Sotto, citing reports from the fire marshal, said the flames spread when they hit a stockpile of rubbing alcohol in the storage room.
“No injuries and no major equipment or supplies hit,” he said in a tweet.
Sotto said at least 14 patients were evacuated on time and transferred to another healthcare facility in Pasig. He said the Medical City and the city government of Manila also offered to help with the transfer of patients.
“It’s good that the situation did not reach that point (that we needed to transfer them to another city) and our Pasig City Children’s Hospital was still capable of admitting our patients,” he added.
The BFP has yet to disclose the cause of the fire and the amount of damage.
