MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) has set up a police outpost at Baseco beach to prevent people from swimming in Manila Bay, which is prohibited under the prevailing modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
MPD district director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco yesterday said the police outpost was also put up to prevent a summer “super spreader event” like what happened at the Gubat sa Ciudad resort in Bagumbong, Caloocan last Sunday.
The government has deployed contact tracers to track down those who went to the resort to celebrate Mother’s Day.
At least 10 persons have been arrested for swimming at Baseco beach since the MECQ, MPD Station 13 commander Lt. Col. Robert Domingo said.
He ordered the police to come up with preventive measures to stop people from swimming at the beach, Domingo said.
