MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Davao Occidental yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the temblor occurred at about 1:25 a.m., with its epicenter traced some 87 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos town.
Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in General Santos City and Intensity 1 in Gingoong City, Misamis Oriental; Koronadal City, South Cotabato, and Kiamba, Sarangani.
State seismologists said no damage was reported, but aftershocks are expected.
A magnitude 3.6 quake struck 21 kms southeast of Hadji Mohammad Ajul in Basilan at around 6:30 a.m.
The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Lamitan City and Intensity 2 in Isabela City, also in Basilan, and Zamboanga City.
