BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Nine COVID-related deaths were recorded in this city on Saturday, the Department of Health in Western Visayas reported yesterday.
The figure brought the total number of COVID deaths in Bacolod to 216 since last year.
Last month, the city health office recorded 28 COVID deaths, acording to Em Ang, chief of the Bacolod emergency operation center.
Sixty-eight officers of the Bacolod City police tested positive for COVID in the same month.
Ang expressed belief that the city could be experiencing a second wave of the COVID outbreak, noting that 53 inmates in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Barangay Handumanan had tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur reported that six persons died of COVID on Saturday.
The recent fatalities brought to 17 the total number of COVID deaths in the province since it recorded its first death in Tagudin town in October.
The 17th fatality was a 52-year-old woman from Barangay Calimugtong, Galimuyod town.
