Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A former high school teacher who allegedly raped his student in 2017 was apprehended in Quezon City over the weekend, police reported yesterday.

Ramil Gara was arrested at TS Cruz Subdivision in Barangay Baesa based on a warrant for rape issued by the Caloocan City Regional Trial Court Branch 121.

According to the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), Gara was a Grade 12 teacher in a school in Caloocan when he allegedly sexually abused the student.

The suspect was accused of raping the victim on several occasions in 2017.

Gara allegedly threatened to fail the student if she refused his sexual demands.

The student’s family filed a complaint for rape against the suspect in the same year. Gara went into hiding.

Police conducted manhunt operations and intelligence gathering to track down the suspect.

Gara is being held at the AKG detention facility on rape charges.
