MANILA, Philippines — Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with expiring employment contracts are allowed to stay longer in South Korea, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported yesterday.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the stay of OFWs whose contract expires from April 13 to Dec. 31 would be extended to one year.
“We welcome this employment measure extended by the Republic of Korea to OFWs, especially during this time of the pandemic,” Bello said. “This development highlights our 15 years of continuing bilateral cooperation with Korea.”
Labor attaché Maya Valderrama informed Bello that South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor and Ministry of Justice have amended the guidelines on employment of foreign workers.
