New Tagbilaran port terminal inaugurated today
MANILA, Philippines — A new passenger terminal building at the Port of Tagbilaran in Bohol will be inaugurated today.
The completion of the project is an important milestone for the main seaport in the city, which sustained significant structural damage from an earthquake in 2013.
The operation of the new terminal, which was completed last Oct. 31, will start, also today.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) general manager Jay Daniel Santiago will lead the inauguration to be attended by other national and local government officials.
With the new terminal, the port can handle an additional 613 passengers, bringing the total capacity to 1,110.
The PPA also constructed a pump house, installed concrete pavements and built lamppost foundations at the port.
After the inauguration, Tugade, Santiago and other transport officials will inspect the Port of Maribojoc, another big-ticket project in Bohol.
The Maribojoc port was also damaged during the earthquake in 2013.
The rehabilitation project is 95.4 percent complete as of last month.
