Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit Davao Occidental before dawn yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the tremor, which occurred at around 4:08 a.m., was located 116 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos town.

Instrumental Intensity 1 was recorded in General Santos and Koronadal in South Cotabato, Alabel and Kiamba in Sarangani, Davao and Kidapawan in Cotabato.

Phivolcs said there was no damage from the quake, but aftershocks were expected.
