House OKs bill renaming Cebu airport terminals
MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives approved on third and final reading yesterday a bill seeking to rename the two terminals at the Mactan Cebu International Airport in honor of Filipino hero Lapu-Lapu.
Lawmakers voted 195-0 to approve the measure renaming the two terminals as Lapu-Lapu Domestic Terminal and Lapu-Lapu International Terminal.
The measure was passed to mark the quincentennial anniversary of the victory of the battle in Mactan.
Lapu-Lapu is recognized as the first Filipino hero for resisting Spanish colonization.
He led 1,500 Filipinos in fighting Spanish forces led by Ferdinand Magellan on April 27, 1521 in what is now called the Battle of Mactan.
President Duterte had earlier declared April 27 as Lapu-Lapu Day and created the Order of Lapu-Lapu to recognize individuals who have helped him in his advocacies.
