MANILA, Philippines — Malabon Mayor Antolin Oreta III yesterday said he tested positive for COVID-19.
On his Facebook page, Oreta said he underwent a swab test for contact tracing and tested positive. He added that he is asymptomatic and will continue to do his work at home.
He told his constituents to keep safe by following minimum health protocols.
Oreta tested positive after being exposed to his bodyguard, city government public information officer Bong Padua said.
Before he tested positive, the mayor opened a new quarantine facility in Barangay Tañong last Friday.
The mayor may have also gotten the virus during his barangay rounds, Padua added.
There were 919 active cases in Malabon as of Monday.
