MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or amihan, which brings cold weather in the country, is expected to end this week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.
“The northeast monsoon will be over by weekend,” PAGASA deputy administrator for research and development Esperanza Cayanan said at a virtual press conference.
Cayanan said several PAGASA stations recorded a gradual increase in the temperature in most parts of the country.
She said latest analyses indicate “slowly shifting” of direction of prevailing winds from northeasterly to easterly or warm air from the Pacific.
“In the coming days, the number of dry and warm days across the country will gradually increase. Isolated thunderstorms are also likely to occur especially in the afternoon or evening hours,” Cayanan said.
“Due to the warm and dry weather condition, the public and all concerned government agencies are advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress, optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption and prevent any accompanying health risks associated with this climate condition,” she said.
