MANILA, Philippines — A police station in Binondo, Manila was put on lockdown after 46 police officers tested positive for COVID-19.

The Manila Police District Station 11 was put under special quarantine Monday, according to MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco.

At least 46 of the 121 personnel who underwent swab tests were positive for the virus, he added.

Meanwhile, one police officer at the Gandara police community precinct and four at the San Nicolas precinct also tested positive.

Those waiting for the results of their swab were quarantined in the police stations, Francisco said.

The police official earlier said contact tracing is underway to determine if the police officers were infected due to their beat patrol in the shopping hubs of Binondo, Divisoria and Recto.

“The increase in cases in the Meisic police station is unusual. We are still awaiting more results,” Francisco said.
