MANILA, Philippines — Hospital beds for COVID-19 patients in Makati are at full capacity due to the rising number of infections in the city, Mayor Abby Binay reported yesterday.
Like other cities in Metro Manila, Binay said Makati observed a spike in COVID-19 cases in the past weeks.
“This is not just peculiar to my neighbors but Makati has also seen a rising number in COVID cases as early as two weeks ago,” she said in an interview on ANC. “In fact, our bed occupancy is already at 100 percent as early as last week.”
Binay said the Makati Medical Center and Ospital ng Makati have reached full capacity for COVID-19 cases.
As of Sunday, there were 12,511 COVID-19 cases in the city with 11,245 recoveries, 442 deaths and 824 active cases.
Liquor ban
Meanwhile, the local governments of Muntinlupa and Pateros enforced yesterday a liquor ban for two weeks.
Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said violators face a fine of up to P5,000 and cancellation of scholarship grants.
Business establishments caught selling alcoholic beverages would be shut down and their licenses revoked, Fresnedi said.
In Pateros, residents who will try to buy liquor outside the town will be arrested, according to Mayor Miguel Ponce III.
Violators will pay P2,000 fine.
The liquor ban in Muntinlupa and Pateros will last until April 4.
