Quezon City, Muntinlupa lock down 7 more areas

MANILA, Philippines — More areas in Quezon City and Muntinlupa were placed under lockdown yesterday.

In Quezon City, five more areas were brought under special concern lockdown, bringing the total to 21.

In an advisory, the city government clarified that the lockdowns only cover small areas and not entire barangays.

All households affected by the lockdown will undergo testing and will be not be allowed to leave for at least 14 days.

The city government said it will provide food and other supplies to the families affected by the granular lockdowns.

The latest areas placed on lockdown were No. 20 and 22 Antique street in Barangay Ramon Magsaysay; No. 43 Langka street in Barangay Balingasa; Christ the King Mission Seminary on E. Rodriguez Avenue in Barangay Kristong Hari; No. 82 Mabituan street in Barangay Masambong; and PhilQ Manpower Services dormitory on Tulip street in Barangay Roxas.

The city government earlier declared lockdowns in 16 areas in 15 barangays.

Mayor Joy Belmonte has urged residents to strictly follow health protocols amid the surge of new cases in the city.

She also directed local enforcement personnel to strictly implement quarantine guidelines such as the mandatory wearing of face masks and face shields in public places and compliance with curfew and social distancing.

Extreme quarantine

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi issued an executive order declaring Cruzero street in Villa Carolina 1, Barangay Tunasan and 124 Purok 1 in Barangay Putatan under a 15-day extreme localized community quarantine starting yesterday morning until the morning of March 28.

City health officer Dr. Tet Tuliao said the two areas became areas of concern after recording a high attack rate of 150 cases per 1,000 individual population from Feb. 27 to March 6.

The areas are “congested and social distancing is not strictly followed,” she said.

Tuliao also noted that the areas have a high population of senior citizens, persons with disability and youth, who are all high-risk individuals.

The city government said it would conduct mass testing in the areas.

Fresnedi called on residents to follow health protocols.

Data from the city’s public information office showed that as of yesterday, Muntinlupa recorded 5,868 confirmed cases with 5,483 recoveries and 177 deaths. There are 208 active cases.
