PNP acquires P55 million CCTVs
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has purchased 10 rapid deployable closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, which can track down suspected terrorists and other criminals.
The PNP bought the CCTVs for P55 million, which was saved from the procurement of body cameras for police officers involved in anti-drug operations.
“We are just waiting for the delivery of the CCTVs,” PNP logistics chief Maj. Gen. Angelito Casimiro said in a text message yesterday.
The surveillance cameras have artificial intelligence to track down wanted persons and suspected terrorists, Casimiro said.
He said the gadgets are useful during major events anywhere in the country as the devices could identify criminals even in large crowds.
According to Casimiro, each gadget can store up to 200 photographs of wanted criminals. The CCTVs have an efficiency rate of 90 percent in identifying criminals listed in the PNP database.
“It will alarm the control kung similar siya sa 200 uploaded photos,” he said.
The CCTVs could be set up at venues and do not have to be linked up with the PNP command center at Camp Crame in Quezon City to be fully functional.
