MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has raised the alert to Level 2 for Filipinos in Myanmar as a precautionary measure.

“This entails restriction of non-essential movements and preparation for possible evacuation,” the DFA said.

The DFA said the move aims to ensure the safety of the remaining 1,273 Filipinos in Myanmar.

Only returning Filipino workers with existing contracts will be allowed to travel in Myanmar, according to the DFA.

“The department reiterates its advice to Filipinos in Myanmar to exercise due caution, monitor developments through reputable sources, avoid places of protests and observe the guidance of the Philippine embassy in Yangon,” the DFA said.

Ebola virus

Meanwhile, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in two African countries have been advised to take precautions against the Ebola virus.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) reminded OFWs to avoid Ebola-stricken communities in Congo and Guinea.

“Filipinos in both countries are advised to avoid mass gatherings, limit interactions with animals and patients suspected of contracting the disease,” POEA chief Bernard Olalia said.
