MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has appointed former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Camilo Cascolan as undersecretary in his office in Malacañang.
Duterte signed Cascolan’s appointment on Monday as undersecretary of the Office of the President, presidential spokesman Harry Roque confirmed yesterday.
“Welcome aboard, Undersecretary Cascolan,” Roque said.
Cascolan, who retired from the police service in November 2020, vowed to work hard in his new post.
He served as PNP chief for only two months.
“I just hope I could keep in step with his standards and I will do my best,” Cascolan said in a phone interview.
He promised to carry out whatever job the President orders him to do.
Cascolan will officially report to Malacañang on March 1.
Sources close to Cascolan said the former police general was initially hesitant to accept a government post. He eventually acceded as it was the President’s request.
