La Union town hall locked down

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — The municipal government building of Bagulin town in La Union was placed on lockdown again on Wednesday after five employees tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.

Bagulin Mayor Virgilio Flor said three of those infected are assigned at the rural health office. The two others are contact tracers of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The patients were said to have attended the wake and funeral of their townmate two weeks ago.

The municipal building was initially placed on lockdown for disinfection and contact tracing last week after a rural health office employee tested positive for COVID-19.

The town now has 14 actives cases, with 11 added to the list on Wednesday.

Contact tracing of those who attended the wake and funeral, mostly local government employees, is ongoing.
