Bicol airport 75% complete
MANILA, Philippines — The construction of the Bicol International Airport is almost 75 percent complete, Albay Rep. Joey Salceda said yesterday, quoting Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
Salceda said Tugade ordered round-the-clock construction of the airport to ensure its completion this year.
“The Department of Transportation is moving very quickly to get this done... I will continue to make the necessary interventions to finish our international airport this year,” Salceda said.
Construction of Package 2A of the airport, which started in December 2016, covers landside facilities – administration, air traffic control, crash fire rescue and maintenance buildings.
Meanwhile, Package 2B of the airport is now 52.69 percent complete. It covers the construction of the passenger terminal building, taxiway, runway extension and other site development works.
Once completed, the airport is expected to serve two million passengers per year and boost Legazpi City’s bid to become a convention capital of the country.
