Hybrid voting for 2022 polls bucked
MANILA, Philippines — An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) opposed yesterday the introduction of the hybrid system in next year’s general elections.
Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said she is not in favor of holding hybrid elections given the limited time left.
On Tuesday, the Makabayan bloc lawmakers filed a House bill seeking the use of hybrid election system in 2022.
Under the system, voting and counting will be done manually while the transmission and canvassing of votes will be automated.
Meanwhile, a health sociologist urged politicians not to use the COVID vaccination to get votes in next year’s elections.
“We appeal to mayors, governors and other local officials not to use the vaccine for votes,” Nina Castillo-Carandang said in an interview with “The Chiefs” on One News/TV5 on Tuesday night. “The vaccine is not equivalent to a vote.” – Helen Flores
